Ganga
Seva Nidhi (GSN)
is a Non Governmental organisation (NGO) registered
under the Societies Registration Act 1860 with Registration No. 207. GSN is
dedicated for nearly one and a half decade to the cause of reviving and
preserving the ancient glory of Varanasi and its cultural heritage.
Environment protection has become a key issue today. The scale and magnitude
of human activities are affecting the climate, ecology and environment. To
protect the environment, widespread education to arouse ecological
consciousness and environmental awareness among the masses is a must.
Therefore, Ganga Seva Nidhi organizes lectures by noted national and
international environmentalists, debates, workshops, anti-pollution camps,
poster exhibition and processions. GSN also publishes and distributes
literature and pamphlets on Ganga pollution. In collaboration with Hotel Taj Daily Morning Aarti of Divine Ganga Ganges, Varanasi, GSN is developing Prayag Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat and Dr.
Rajendra Prasad Ghat as ideal ghats.
Ganga Seva Nidhi actively celebrates important religious festivals to arouse
awareness for collective work for the society, preserve cultural heritage
and bring peace and harmony in society. For the first time in Nations modern
history, GSN started Aakash-Deep (Offering light), which are lit as a mark
of tribute to the nation’s martyrs in the evening at Dashashwamedh Ghat in
the month of Karttika. This programme finally culminates on Karttika Purnima
in a glorious function organized in collaboration with HINDALCO, Renukoot,
HQ Central Air Command, Allahabad, 4 Air Force Selection Board, Varanasi and
39 GTC, Varanasi. GSN honours brave Martyrs with "Bhagirath Shourya Samman"
in this function. Karttika Purnima is also observed by GSN as a Martyrs
Commemoration Day. Thus, Dev-Dipavali as celebrated by GSN is a wonderful
blend of Spiritualism & Nationalism. Daily Ganga Aarti, followed by prayers and discourses, is a constructive
effort of GSN to reawaken the latent consciousness of people towards the
sordid impurities and pollution of Ganga.
Geet Ganga – a Music Festival - organized during Dev-Dipavali is an effort
of GSN to preserve and promote Varanasi’s cultural heritage. GSN has also
instituted an award "Bhagirath Alankaran", which is awarded to eminent
intellectuals, environmentalists, artists and social workers for their
invaluable contribution to society and humanity. GSN organizes various
programmes of classical music and encourages young artists by providing a
platform at the Ghats.
